Amphitrite

In Greek mythology, the Nereides were patrons of sailors and fisherman. They came to the aid of those in distress at sea. Each of the Nereides represented the various facets that make up the sum total of the sea. Individually they represented the waves and currents, the rocky shores, foam, sand, and the salty brine of the sea. The Nereides lived with their father, Nereus, in a cavern at the bottom of the Aegean Sea.

Although Thetis, according to mythology, was considered the leader of the Nereides, Amphitrite, also a Nereid, was the Queen Goddess of the Sea, and the wife of Poseidon. She represented the female personification of the sea.
