Skadi the Nordic  Ice Goddess

Skadi is one of the giant goddesses of Norse Mythology; the huntress that gifted man not only with the bow and arrow, but the skill to use them efficiently in order to survive and achieve independence. Her domain was the snow covered mountains, and the wilderness. She was also the goddess that ruled over revenge, justice, and knowledge.

Symbolic of the primordial womb, Skadi was also known as the “Dark Magician”.  Her name means 'shadow or shade'.  She was not considered evil in her magick, instead she symbolized the dark times all humanity goes through; the balance of light and dark. While the North represented the harsh and unforgiving nature of winter, it was also considered a time for sacred stillness and reflection, and in this reflection the Norse people also recognized the exquisite beauty of winter that was the goddess Skadi.
