"Classic Lines. . .Irreverent. . .Sensually Feral. . .Seductively Sinful. . .Blasphemous. . .Vargas with your own twist. . ."
These are just a few of the adjectives people have used to describe my art and photography. I find them all complimentary. They validate the objective of my work. . .to elicit an emotional response I call the Saints & Sinners Syndrome.
The appreciation of the sensual beauty and language in my art, conflicts with centuries of ingrained monotheistic and social programming in the human psyche. The result is an intellectual struggle between temptation and guilt as you find yourself enjoying what is erroneously classified as taboo.
Fundamental religions, for centuries, have denigrated the sensual identity of men and women. Social perspectives on human sensuality have been manipulated and warped by these monotheistic belief systems. The ancient beliefs we call mythology, regardless of ethnic origin, all had one common denominator...their spirituality was inclusive of both the god and the goddess, yin and yang...balance. Nor were their gods and goddesses neutered. Look at the magnificent sculptures and paintings left behind by these ancient societies. They understood this balance. The human body was not something to be hidden in shame. The beauty and sensuality of the human body was boldly expressed in their art. Sensuality originates from within. It is a state of mind unique to the individual.
I strive in my art to negate these absurd social and religious taboos regarding the sensual language inherent in the human body and mind.
